A Fresh Perspective.

For as long as I can remember I have been head over heels for fashion. I love the culture of fashion, the history, and most of all the creativity. That’s what sparked this journey originally when I moved from my hometown of Indianapolis, IN to Atlanta, GA. But these days, I’m finding that not only is fashion my go to for creative stimulation, but I also realize that I have a few other desires that feel just as stimulating and important.

I’ve had several dreams of becoming a fashion designer, an influencer, and podcaster. But I also have a ton of other passionate desires for subjects such as social justice and community, music, film, and art. So how in the world am I going to fit all of these things into one box-The FLO Experience box of desires? As most would advise, “just stick to one thing and do that one thing well before you get into other things.” I’ve also watched social media videos where someone says, “you can do all the things that your heart desires, you don’t have to narrow it down to one.” So, obviously, I fancy the latter, but how? How can I put it all together and make it make sense? Where do I start and who in the world is going to understand?

While my mind grapples with these thoughts of uncertainty, I figured, why not start them all? And so, I did. I now have a podcast which is ultimately why you’re here, I sell clothes and jewelry-soon to release my own creations, I have a film script that I’ve been working on for a few years (don’t judge lol), and I’m still a fanatic for music, art, and journalism-and did I mention I have a BA in Journalism with a PR concentration?? I know it seems like a lot, but I’ve been working on all of these things on and off simultaneously for years now. After reflecting on it all, I come to realize that what I need to do most is allot CONSISTENT time for all of them. Set aside small amounts of time each day to nurture these things without stressing over the need to get it all done and do away with self-doubt. One thing is for certain, self-evaluation is critical to growth. I have to look in the mirror and say, “ok Renee (aka FLO) let’s take a deep breathe, get still, and ask The Most High for guidance.” My inner spirit advised me to work them all but do it in a way that your time is spent wisely doing so. Just as you would if you were clocking in your time to work for some corporation. In most cases, jobs require you to be flexible, be adaptable to change, and to think on your feet. What if I clock in and apply that work ethic into MY corporation?? And so, here we are. With a fresh perspective. I have decided to give it my all in a more consistent manner allotting time into these spaces lovingly and give that time my full intention and attention and be completely present in every moment.

With this, as I listen during stillness and while in spiritual communication with my inner being, I heard, “give it two years.” At best, this will be the journey of a lifetime, one that I’ll never forget, at worst…well, I don’t have an anecdote for that one, I don’t need one. I don’t plan for it to be worse. I think the worst is not doing any of it at all. And if that’s the case, I’ve already seen that play out. Every inch of struggle that I’ve ever encountered as a young adult is the result of not going for it-staying comfortable-which in most cases led to misery and anxiety. So, this journey is at its best, particularly because I no longer have the desire to do anything else. I love fashion. I love art. I love music. I love my community, and I believe in social justice for everyone. I love journalism because I’m a seeker at heart. I love film and good visual and audible storytelling. These are the corners of the world where I feel at home. It’s not foreign or forced, the love for all of them feels good-it feels right.

So, at this moment, I am pouring into this website-currently building and designing it and preparing it to be published. You might ask, why I didn’t bother to introduce myself at the beginning of this blog? Afterall, it’s the first one to be published on the website. How are your readers going to get to know you? My answer is, there’s no introduction needed. We’ve all been here before and can relate to one another instinctly. Once we start by getting to know our true selves, our tribe will emerge and see us and will reveal themselves in our own reflection. I believe you are my tribe, and I see you in me. I trust that we are here in this space at this very moment for the mere purpose of realizing ourselves and going after life’s desires with a fresh perspective. Ase.
